  • Micrometer Slide, 1 Inch Travel (0.0001â€), End

    $380.00

The Gaertner Scientific M300PA micrometer slide has one inch of travel. The carriage is threaded to accept the standard Gaertner measuring microscopes and telemicroscopes. The carriage ways are precision hand-scraped, and the leadscrew is hand-lapped to the nut. There is a special cam that tilts the nut as the carriage is positioned, thereby correcting any residual errors in the pitch of the lead screw.

There is a one inch scale to indicate the coarse position of the carriage, and a precision graduated drum to indicate the fine position directly to 0.0005 inches, and to 0.0001 inches via the vernier. This version of the slide is not equipped with the 19mm post, instead it is meant to be mounded on the face opposite the drum. See the third photo.

The slide is in superb condition, and has been cleaned and relubricated.

  • Gaertner Precision Micrometer Slide, 4 Inch Travel

    $190.00

This is a Gaertner Scientific 1-LM430 precision micrometer slide with four inches of travel. The carriage, which is threaded to accept the standard series of Gaertner measuring microscopes and telemicroscopes, runs on a precision lapped cylindrical rod. The advance is by means of a split nut that is hand lapped to the leadscrew. The nut floats within the carriage and a bearing attached to the nut follows a special cam that runs along the inside of the housing. This cam corrects for any residual errors in the lead screw.

There is a four inch scale on the exterior of the instrument, and a large precision graduated drum for setting the lead screw. The graduations on the drum permit setting the carriage position directly to 0.0005 inches, and to 0.00005 inches via the vernier. The leadscrew is loaded against a spherical bearing by a large coil flat spring housed within the small compartment opposite the handwheel. This permits using the slide in any orientation.

The entire instrument has been completely rebuilt and is working flawlessly. It includes a 19mm diameter rod 6 inches long. The mechanism is completely enclosed. It weighs close to 8 pounds.

  • Wild Drawing Tube after Treffenberg, Modified for

    $375.00

This Wild Drawing Tube has been tested and is not working properly – selling as parts.

Here is a very rare item. It is a drawing tube assembly (after Treffenberg) initially made for the Wild M20 compound microscope, however this tube has an interesting modification. The mounting flange for the tube fits the tube fittings on the Zeiss ‘Grayline’ instruments. The receptacle for the viewing tube has not been altered – in other words it requires a Wild style viewing tube. The modification appears to have been done at the Heerbrugg factory since the entire central prism holder has been machined with the Zeiss flange accommodation in mind. It is not possible to simply remove the Zeiss flange and replace it with the Wild flange.

The drawing tube is interposed between the viewing head and the stand. A beam-splitter in the intervening disk superimposes an image of the desktop adjacent to the microscope onto the microscope image. The magnification ratio between the microscope image and the desktop image is regulated by a sliding sleeve (with the +V and V- markings). The desktop image is focused with the chrome knurled ring on the distal end of the tube. There is a swing-out filter holder in which a neutral density filter may be placed to assist in balancing the illumination (neutral density filters are not included).

The tube has a magnification factor of 1.25x. The optics in the tube are perfect – no delamination and no blemishes in the surface. Cosmetically the tube is in excellent condition showing some minor signs of use – most notably in the uneven finish of the distal prism housing (see last photo).

Drawing tubes remain an important device in the microscopists arsenal – often they are very helpful to make drawings of highly complex subjects in which the details of interest are otherwise obscured. They are also very useful during video microscopy if you wish to superimpose some sort of readout on the image while recording some dynamic event.

  • Leica (Leitz) Plan Apo 50x / 0.95 Metallurgical

    $900.00

Leitz (marked Leica Germany) microscope objective for metallurgical instruments, of Plan Apochromatic correction. Plan objectives are corrected to display a perfectly flat image of up to 28mm in diameter, while apochromatic objectives represent the highest degree of color correction. The catalog number for this objective indicates it is a special version for KLA inspection stations, however, unlike most KLA objectives, this one retains the spring-loaded protection feature. It is identical in all respects to the standard PL Apo 50x metallurgical objective.

     Magnification: 50x
     Numerical Aperture: 0.90
     Infinity corrected
     Thread size RMS
Must be used WITHOUT cover glass
     Spring-loaded sample / objective protection:
     Leica catalog number: 567 056

The standard RMS objective thread allows this objective to be used on earlier metallurgical instruments manufactured by Leitz from as long ago as the 1950’s, and via a ‘step-up’ 32mm thread adapter, on most of the currently produced instruments from Leica Microsystems.

The objective is in near-perfect cosmetic condition, and the glass is flawless.

  • Bausch & Lomb StereoZoom 3 Pod, 1x to

    $75.00

This is the entry-level version of the classic Bausch & Lomb stereo zoom microscope Pod. It has a zoom range of 1x to 2x (later StereoZoom 3 pods increased the zoom range to 2.5x). Magnification can be further varied by exchanging the oculars (B&L has eyepiece pairs from 10x to 33x designed for use with the stereo pods), or by threading an auxiliary objective adapter onto the front of the pod. The later are available in various magnifications from 0.3x to 2x, but they alter the working distance of the pod. This yields a magnification range of 3x to 160x depending on the combination of oculars and auxiliary lenses selected.

This pod is in excellent cosmetic condition and exceptional optical/mechanical condition. It represents the earliest generation instruments with all metal construction and gray finish. The dust seals beneath the ocular tubes are no longer present (the earlier seals tended to dry out and crumble away). Alignment is very good. These will be checked for proper zoom function and relubricated when warranted before they are posted. The lubricants on older pods tend to become rather tacky and the result is an image jump during zooming. Replacing the lubricant on the zoom cams and the guide ledges will correct this issue.

Pod catalog number is 31-26-93. With standard 10x oculars (not included) the field diameter ranges from 20mm at 1x to 10mm at 2x, with a working distance of 100mm. Instrument remains in focus throughout the zoom range.

To make a complete instrument you need a focusing yoke (included with some of the simpler stand versions), a support stand, and a pair of oculars. Optional needs would include an illumination source. Inquire regarding the availability of complete systems or multiple units.

    $150.00

*** Please note that the lamp socket is NOT included with the transformer it was photographed to demonstrate the working condition of the transformer. ***

This is a nice regulating 6-volt transformer as supplied for several of the vintage Wild stereo microscopes. There are two output taps on the rear of the transformer which allow one to power a pair of 15w lamps or a single 30w lamp. The transformer is continually adjustable with the power switch integral with the intensity setting knob. A pilot lamp indicates that the power is on, and there is a volt meter for repeatable settings of lamp intensity. The output is continually adjustable. It is identical in most respects with the Model MTR 16 transformer, however it was originally supplied with a two-wire line cord. That has been replaced with a three-wire cord that has been internally grounded in a similar fashion to that of the MTR 16. The transformer also lacks the tap for a 250v primary line.
    Socket and bulb NOT included
    Characteristics include:

    Input line selector 110 / 125 / 150 / 220 V
    Secondary 30 vA
50 or 60 cycle line current
Three-wire line cord internally grounded within enclosure

The transformer is in excellent and fully functional condition. Lamp output varies smoothly without any drop-outs or sudden peaks in intensity. Cosmetic condition is very good. There are a few places where the finish on the top of the transformer is blemished, and the original knob has been replaced (see photos).
