Plummer Precision Optics was principally a manufacturer of custom systems, mainly for Department of Defense. This interesting microscope has no identification number on it - indeed no indication of the magnification of either the ocular or the objective. The ocular is a focusable type found on many collimation systems, but there is no reticle installed, nor even a defining aperture diaphragm. The objective is installed at a right angle to the tube assembly..

The tube assembly is cradled in a holder that has a side-to-side drive mechanism which effectively focuses the microscope (motion is imparted parallel to the objective axis). Opposite the control knob for the focus drive is a plate that carries a second very large clamp screw and washer. This was either used to mount the entire assembly on a fixture to the subject could be examined, or was used to mount the actual sample. I suspect the former since the working distance of the objective appears to be about 35mm - well beyond the plane of the focusing plate.

This is a very nicely machined instrument and seems to be in close to new condition. The optics are perfect
