Reflecting Microscope Objective (Near IR to Near

This is a special Cassegrain type reflecting microscope objective. It consists of a pair of mirrors, a larger concave primary mirror and a smaller convex secondary mirror. There are no refractive imaging elements. There is an aperture in the large diameter chrome-plated shroud underneath which is a blanked slide way. The aperture is blocked but it looks like one could turn the center hub to align a second aperture for access to the interior. Possibly this is for some sort of vertical illuminator accessory, or an external detector system..
The mirrors appear to have a conventional aluminum coating – they are not gold-coated. Condition of both mirrors appears to be perfect. They are relatively small so I would infer that the initial magnification is in the range of 30x to 50x. There is no nomenclature anywhere in the system nor do I know who manufactured the piece. It is most likely from an infrared microscope, but it would be possible to use this in the near UV range.
Mounting thread – 14.75mm (inside thread diameter)
Diameter of system – 70mm
Height of system – 51mm
Diameter of front aperture – 7.5mm
The mounting thread is also unusual – it is female and somewhat smaller than an RMS thread. It is possible that there is a missing intermediate adapter. The objective is in superb condition (the ‘mottled’ appearance at the top of the chrome in the first photograph is actually a reflection – the plating is perfect).
